The smallest of Utah’s “Mighty 5,” Bryce Canyon National Park has hidden-gem appeal, thanks  in part to its unique orange-pink rock spires known as hoodoos. Hike during the day, then enjoy majestic scenery at night—this is a prime spot for stargazing. A few of the main lodging options near the park are located in Bryce Canyon City. The area was founded by Ruby Syrett, who opened the first local hotel here in the early 1900s. Here are the best hotels near Bryce Canyon National Park.

Best Western Plus Ruby’s Inn (26 S Main St.; 435-834-5341) Bryce Canyon City

This Best Western is “five minutes from the park visitor center,” writes a Tripadvisor user. “Lots of history in all of the buildings, good insight on how Bryce Canyon came to be, and how Ruby Syrett was a part of that.” Onsite, the hotel has indoor and outdoor pools, a basketball court, a laundry room, free parking, breakfast and access to the seasonal park shuttle. “I like the old-fashioned lodge-y feel of the place,” writes a Google reviewer, with “the big lobby with a fireplace and cozy couches.”  >> Book this hotel for less

Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel (30 N 100 E.; 435-834-5700) Bryce Canyon City

This Best Western is the newest of the three hotels that make up the “Ruby’s” area of Bryce Canyon City. The room was comfortable with a great view,” writes a Google reviewer. “The entire hotel felt quiet, cozy, and welcoming.” Stays include free breakfast and parking. “The pool and hot tub are very nice,” writes a Tripadvisor user, “and there were great laundry facilities. A drawback was that they did not offer evening dining, so you had to go to their sister hotel across the street for dinner.” The park shuttle bus picks up right in front of the hotel. >> Book this hotel for less

Bryce View Lodge (105 Center St.; 435-834-5180) Bryce Canyon City

You can buy your park passes and catch the shuttle to the park from this budget hotel that’s a sister property of the two Best Westerns. The location was the biggest advantage—close to Bryce Canyon, the park shuttle, shopping, excursion-tour companies, several restaurants, and gas station,” writes a Tripadvisor user. “The room was clean, but somewhat dated.” A Google reviewer writes that “breakfast was great, offering both sweet and savory options. The dining area was beautiful, and there was music playing, which made the atmosphere even more enjoyable.” >> Book this hotel for less

The Lodge at Bryce Canyon (1 Lodge Way, Highway 63; 855-765-0255) Bryce

Choose from lodge or motel-style rooms as well as stone cabins at the only lodging inside the national park. Just be prepared to unplug. The Lodge “offers a classic, cozy experience without any frills,” writes Condé Nast Traveler of the rustic stone lodge. “It’s full of historic charm and is in close proximity to plenty of viewpoints and trails. Keep in mind that the lodge doesn’t have any TVs, Wi-Fi, or air conditioning.” The lodge does have a restaurant and general stores and is only open seasonally, from March to November. “Amazing location close to the rim trail,” writes a Google reviewer. “Food was very good in the restaurant, and sensibly priced considering they are the only option inside the park.” >> Book this hotel for less

Clear Sky Resorts – Bryce Canyon (855 UT-12; 888-704-4445) Cannonville

You’re 15 minutes from the park but immersed in nature at this sky-dome resort, where each of the 62 lodgings has floor-to-ceiling geometric windows. “You get exceptional views in every direction, including up,” writes Conde Nast Traveler. Some domes sleep just two but others have multiple bedrooms. The resort has its own restaurant—another dome—as well as onsite activities such as stargazing talks, yoga classes and bonfires with s’mores. A Google reviewer writes that “I loved the inside of our dome and the quality of the bedding, and the amenities, from the complimentary tea and coffee to the spacious and modern shower.” >> Book this hotel for less
