Located about two hours from both New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains offer an easy-access mountain getaway. Whether you are coming in the winter for snowy fun at the Big Boulder Ski Area or visiting in the summer for hiking, biking and water sports, you’ll find plenty of places to stay, from camp-style lodges to big resorts. Here are five of the best hotels in the Poconos.
Skytop Lodge (1 Skytop Dr.; 570- 257-2114) Skytop
Philadelphia magazine calls this stately 124-room hotel “the platonic ideal of a luxurious Gatsby-era summer retreat. The property features 20 hiking trails, a lake, an 18-hole golf course, and an on-site naturalist, so it’s no wonder families have been returning here for generations.” A Tripadvisor user likes that “the lodge is a beautiful old stone building. I stayed in the lowest cost room (deluxe king) … and the room was actually pretty nice. There were plenty of activities included (skiing, tubing, hiking, bikes) that justify the price if you plan ahead.” >> Book this hotel for less
The Lodge at Woodloch (109 River Birch Ln.; 570-685-8000) Hawley
Travel+ Leisure likes this adults-only spa resort for its “500-plus acres of pristine woodland, gourmet cuisine, wellness-centric activities” and “the award-winning spa facilities, which are free to all guests.” A Google reviewer writes that “the facilities are fabulous and the Himalayan Salt sauna and Snow Room are a unique experience,” while another writes that “it equals Canyon Ranch in every way at a much more reasonable price.” Families, meanwhile, might consider its nearby sister property, Woodloch Pines Resort, with its camp-style lodgings and family activities like archery and disc golf. >> Book this hotel for less
Mount Airy Casino Resort (312 Woodland Rd.; 877-682-4791) Mt. Pocono
This 284-room adults-only casino resort “serves as a lively entertainment hub,” writes US News & World Report. “The main asset is the on-site casino,” but “the hotel sits within close range of prime skiing areas.” A Google reviewer calls it a “great stay with everything in one place with multiple restaurants, casino, pool, spa, and golf course. Rooms are modern. Only negative is that the hallway and neighboring rooms can get noisy.” >> Book this hotel for less
Kalahari Resorts & Conventions – Poconos (250 Kalahari Blvd.; 877-525-2427) Pocono Manor
“This huge hotel and equally huge indoor water park offer all sorts of family-friendly activities,” writes Philadelphia magazine, “from water rides to black-light miniature golf to arcade games, plus a spa for the grown-ups and an international menu of restaurants.” Online reviewers love the Africa theme of the Wisconsin-born hotel brand. “Every piece of art or picture is from Africa. You really experience an immersion into Kalahari,” writes a Google reviewer. Also, “the rubber wristbands made life so easy with getting into our rooms or charging items.” >> Book this hotel for less
Camelback Resort (604 Camelback Rd.; 855-515-1283) Tannersville
Families will appreciate this 453-room resort, writes Philadelphia magazine: “After the kids try all 50 slides at the on-site water parks (or attend their drop-in day camps), Mom hits the spa, and Dad goes zip-lining, the whole family can cook dinner in the resort’s recently renovated condo-style rooms, which feature full kitchens.” The resort also has 13 restaurants and other convenient perks. “The breakfast buffet was delicious and had a ton of options,” writes a Tripadvisor user. “Room was standard but it was clean. There is a free shuttle from the resort to Camelbeach that runs roughly every 15 minutes—super convenient!” >> Book this hotel for less
