Whether you want to lounge on the beach, take hula lessons or spend your time by the pool, Hawaii offers many forms of tropical paradise. The islands have plenty of fun-filled family-friendly resorts, but some up the ante when it comes to pool time, offering slides, play areas and crowd-pleasing waterscapes. Here are the best hotel lazy rivers in Hawaii.
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa (92-1185 Ali’inui Dr.; 866-443-4763) Kapolei
Travel+Leisure loves this Disney resort on Oahu for its “spacious rooms and suites that are perfect for families of all sizes,” “character meals and meet-and-greets,” and a “massive pool complex with several pools, two larger waterslides, a lazy river, and adults-only hot tubs.” Readers also love the Rainbow Reef, a saltwater lagoon for snorkeling. “The pools were nice and the two waterslides were an absolute blast—however by mid-day you can expect a decent line at the slides,” writes a Google reviewer. “The lazy river was the highlight for me, floating around the resort and through the large rock formation with waterfalls. Loved it!” >> Book this hotel for less
Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa (1571 Poipu Rd.; 808-742-1234) Poipu
“Heaven on earth” is how Condé Nast Traveler describes this Kauai resort whose “open-air design recalls the island glamour of the 1920s and ’30s;” the magazine suggests “floating down a lava-rock lined lazy river pool past waterfalls.” One Google reviewer quibbles that the resort can feel too big, but adds that “the pool area and grounds are well done, with a fun lazy river, a cool slide and a shallow ‘sand pool’ near the ocean for kids. The location is top-notch; you can walk to a nearby path for a mini-hike. We saw some sea turtles along the coast.” >> Book this hotel for less
Hilton Waikoloa Village (69-425 Waikōloa Beach Dr.; 808-886-1234) Waikoloa Village
“So much to do on-site that guests will never be bored,” writes U.S. News & World Report about this Big Island resort on 62 acres, adding that it “can sometimes feel more like a theme park than a luxury hotel.” The pool complex includes a lagoon, a 175-foot waterslide and a lazy river. A Google reviewer writes that “the resort is massive; it has a tram and a boat inside the resort … We got upgraded to a Makai room, which overlooks the ocean, where you can look at the beach and listen to the sea.” >> Book this hotel for less
Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa (2605 Kaanapali Pkwy; 808- 661-0031) Lahaina
“This isn’t a luxury resort, but the price is right for a Maui getaway,” writes Condé Nast Traveler of this 508-room, 1963 Sheraton that sits on Kaanapali Beach and has a pool complex with a lazy river. (Fun fact: the hotel’s original lobby was the location for a scene in Elvis Presley’s Blue Hawaii.) A Google reviewer writes that “we had an oceanfront room with snorkeling right outside our door. I never thought I would utilize the pool, but this is not any ordinary pool. The lazy river is amazing, with different areas and waterfalls, and there are two bars right next to it for drinks and food.” >> Book this hotel for less
Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort (3850 Wailea Alanui Dr.; 808-875-1234) Wailea
Speaking of Maui, Conde Nast Traveler writes that “kids will love this resort—they’ll probably beg for a return visit” and “this is no small resort, with 780 guest rooms, a 50,000-square-foot spa, and a massive pool area with waterslides.” One Tripadvisor user complains about being “nickel and dimed… [like] $15 to enter a family game room,” but another user writes that “kids love the pool area and slides. You can create a bit of a loop where you go down six or seven small slides, do the lazy river, and repeat. I even thought the big slide was pretty fun and did it about 10 times on the trip.” >> Book this hotel for less
