Set off from the mainland by just a short distance, Palm Beach very much feels away from it all. The town was founded in 1909 by wealthy industrialist Henry Morrison Flagler. It is still an enclave for the rich and famous. Today you can explore Flagler’s Gilded Age-mansion-turned-museum, shop along upscale Worth Avenue, or spy Florida’s gentle giants at Manatee Lagoon. Palm Beach offers a variety places to stay that will make you feel like an insider, too. Here are five classic hotels in Palm Beach.
The Breakers Palm Beach (1 S. County Rd.; 561-655-6611) Palm Beach
You won’t want to leave this grand dame resort’s 140 acres. It includes a private beach, golf, four pools, and several restaurants. The hotel dates back to 1896 and “boasts a rich history rivaled only by its own penchant for constant reinvention,” says Forbes Travel Guide. It adds that the 538-room hotel still “feels warm and welcoming. Rooms feature ocean-inspired décor.” A Google reviewer calls it “one of the most beautiful resorts I had been to in my entire life. The options were abundant. Close access to shopping, boat charters and entertainment and fine dining.” >> Book this hotel for less
White Elephant Palm Beach (280 Sunset Ave.; 561-832-7050) Palm Beach
Although the 32-room boutique hotel is located in a 1924 building, it is a relative newcomer to the area, having opened in 2019. The White Elephant “offers all of the quaintness of Palm Beach with all of the bells and whistles the modern traveler could hope for,” says Vogue. “Rooms are spacious and well-designed with relaxed yet elegant decor. Ask the concierge to set you up with a parasol on the beach. Or sit beneath a black-and-white striped parasol at the pool.” Travel+Leisure recently deemed The White Elephant the best hotel in Florida and one Tripadvisor user seems to agree: “The rooms are chic and comfy. We loved all the little touches—from the frozen fruit at the pool…to books to borrow and complimentary wine and snacks during happy hour in the beautiful lobby.” >> Book this hotel for less
Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach (2800 S. Ocean Blvd.; 561-582-2800) Palm Beach
This 221-room Four Seasons sits on a prime stretch of beach, minutes from Worth Avenue. “The first-class service and pampering Four Seasons properties are known for extends into every corner of the Palm Beach location,” says Travel+Lesiure, “down to its poolside cabanas, complimentary sunscreen, fresh fruit platters, and sunglass cleanings.” One Tripadvisor user loves renting a cabana on the beach. “Food and cocktails right on the beach was a luxury as the cabana came with an ice bucket full of artisanal water.” Foodies will also love Florie’s, helmed by Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco. >> Book this hotel for less
The Colony Hotel (155 Hammon Ave.; 561-655-5430) Palm Beach
Vogue calls this pink 1947 hotel “photogenic. With 89 rooms and a lobby splashed with pink de Gournay wallpaper, The Colony should be at the top of your hotel list.” Beyond the colorful ambience, the beachfront hotel offers a beach butler, cruiser bikes, house car services and decadent doggie amenities. One Google reviewer says “the hotel is historic and beautiful. Our room was a bit small and could have used more lighting but that is a minuscule detail compared to all The Colony has to offer. We dined at Swifty’s, which was pricey but yummy. The beach service was wonderful.” >> Book this hotel for less
Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa (100 S Ocean Blvd.; 561- 533-6000) Manalapan
“Mediterranean glamour … a resort that delivers on amenities and service” is how Forbes Travel Guide describes this 309-room waterfront hotel south of Palm Beach. The guide also gives it props for family amenities, such as a kids’ club; a teen club; a splash pad; and a video arcade. Make the most of beach access, the 42,000-square-foot spa and restaurants ranging from sushi at Bōken to ice cream parlor MELT. “Rooms where spacious and beautiful,” says a Tripadvisor user. “Service, particularly room service, valet staff, and beach service were impeccable. Everyone goes out of their way to make you happy and that makes a huge difference.” >> Book this hotel for less
