Year-round warm weather is just one reason why Florida offers an ideal tennis vacation. The Sunshine State has long attracted elite-level players who train at world-class tennis centers equipped with Har-Tru clay courts. (These do well in the Florida climate and are gentler on players’ joints.) That tennis culture extends to resorts, some of which offer their own tennis programs along with spas, pools, and beaches. Here are five of the best tennis resorts in Florida.

Saddlebrook Resort (5700 Saddlebrook Way; 813-973-1111) Wesley Chapel

This 480-acre resort near Tampa Bay has golf, a spa, pools, and an elite-level tennis facility with 41 courts, featuring all four Grand Slam surfaces. “The grounds are lush, but its athletic facilities and tennis courts are fantastic,” writes a Google reviewer. “If you enjoy sports, this is the place for you.” Choose between one-time lessons and a program with up to five hours of instruction a day. Relax in classic rooms or suites with full kitchens; the resort also has four dining options. “The dining experience was great—yummy drinks and desserts,” writes a Tripadvisor user. “We learned a ton (endurance, skill, strategy, technique) with our five-day clinics.” >> Book this hotel for less

Omni Amelia Island Resort & Spa (39 Beach Lagoon Rd.; 904-261-6161) Fernandina Beach

This 373-room Omni on Amelia Island, about 40 minutes from Jacksonville, has 23 Har-Tru courts and a renowned Cliff Drysdale Tennis program. There’s also a beach, two pools, and 36 holes of golf. Condé Nast Traveler writes that it is “one of only two luxury resorts on the island, though the vibe is far from pretentious,” with “beautifully untamed grounds rich with Spanish moss-adorned live oaks.” One Tripadvisor user writes “the tennis clinics were great and every employee went out of their way to make our stay pleasant.” Another writes “my kids loved the nature center and the family pool was fantastic.” >> Book this hotel for less

The Boca Raton (501 E Camino Real; 855-874-6551) Boca Raton

This legendary, sprawling pink-hued resort in Boca Raton, about 20 miles from Fort Lauderdale, is comprised of five hotel buildings, 15 restaurants, and countless ways to relax. Choose from the beach, golf, a spa, and the world-class tennis facility with HydroCourts, a variation on Har-Tru. “The 16-court Racquet Club has its own dedicated tennis concierge whose job revolves around booking courts, matching guests with at-level players, and scheduling lessons,” writes Condé Nast Traveler. A Tripadvisor user writes that “we enjoyed the beach and the kids loved the kids club and the Harborside pool with water slides and a lazy river. My husband was able to play tennis every day while my mother in-law, aunt, and I took pickleball classes.” >> Book this hotel for less

The Resort at Longboat Key Club (220 Sands Point Rd.; 888-237-5545) Longboat Key

“Snowbirds aren’t the only ones who can appreciate the appeal” of this “gigantic property that boasts a private cream-colored shore, 45 holes of golf, 20 Har-Tru tennis courts, a spa, and a variety of other ways to indulge,” writes U.S. News & World Report of this barrier island resort near Sarasota. Choose from rooms and suites—the latter come with balconies overlooking the beach, lagoon, or golf courses. One Google reviewer writes “we rented a 2two-bedroom suite that was perfect for a family, and the tennis facilities were amazing.” >> Book this hotel for less

The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami (455 Grand Bay Dr.; 305-365-4500) Key Biscayne

Enjoy a beachy tennis getaway at this Ritz-Carlton on the barrier island of Key Biscayne, near Miami. It has its own Cliff Drysdale Tennis center with nine tennis courts, five padel courts, and four pickleball courts. “Accommodations are chic yet homey, with modern wooden furnishings, blue-and-white hues, and ample space for lounging,” writes U.S. News & World Report. “On the resort grounds, you’ll find two outdoor pools, a Cuban-inspired lounge, seven dining options, and the tranquil spa.” A Google reviewer writes that the “rooms are decent but the highlight for me was the tennis facilities. Lots of clay courts and top-notch pros—worth the money.” >> Book this hotel for less
