With ideal weather for most of the year, outdoor dining is an integral part of the Los Angeles restaurant experience. Whether you’re in the mood to savor rooftop views or seek a secluded garden away from traffic, L.A. has it. But it must be said that the city has a habit of tucking the best spots away from view. Luckily, we’ve done the work for you to find the best outdoor dining spots in Los Angeles.

A.O.C. (8700 W. 3rd St.; 310-859-9859), Beverly Grove

After touring the L.A. County Museum of Art (LACMA) and LaBrea tar pits, leave room for a stop at A.O.C.. Condé Nast Traveler calls this the “the prettiest courtyard in L.A.” Expect “California French” cuisine with a Mediterranean flair. In addition, one OpenTable user says this is the “best outdoor dining in LA! Gorgeous patio! And it felt incredibly COVID safe.”

Perch (448 S. Hill St.; 213-802-1770), Downtown L.A.

All in all, you’ll be hard-pressed to find better views of Los Angeles anywhere else. Perch’s 15th-floor patio serves up spectacular vistas and hearty French staples like brie, filet mignon and charcuterie. “The view on this rooftop is hard to beat,” says one TripAdvisor reviewer. After sundown, cozy up under a heat lamp with an after-dinner digestif from the expansive cocktail menu. As one Yelp reviewer puts it: “You’re going for the view, and it totally delivers.”

The Rose Venice (220 Rose Ave.; 310-399-0711) Venice Beach

No list of best outdoor dining spots in Los Angeles is complete without The Rose. After peoplewatching along the Venice boardwalk, stroll to the covered patio at The Rose Venice. “The outdoor patio space is so beautiful with trendy vibes,” says one Yelp user. Serving the neighborhood since 1979, this Venice staple serves up SoCal favorites like hearty grain bowls and decadent salads. Diners also love its Italian-inspired dishes like carbonara and pizzas. “The patios are light and the energy is friendly, as is the consistently fabulous service,” one TripAdvisor reviewer raved. Several Yelp reviewers also appreciated The Rose’s social distancing protocols in addition to its already-welcoming atmosphere.

Gracias Madre (8905 Melrose Ave.; 323-978-2170) West Hollywood

In Spanish, the name means “Thanks, mother.” String lights and heat lamps add a cozy touch to the terrace, which one TripAdvisor user says is the “prettiest patio in LA.” Consistently, reviewers recommend the al pastor tacos, enchiladas and flautas, and many say the vegan versions rival the originals. At the bar, there’s an impressive list of tequila and mezcal cocktails. “The food was fresh and bursting with flavor,” says one OpenTable user.

Eveleigh (8752 West Sunset Blvd.; 424-239-1630) West Hollywood

After a busy day of sightseeing, Eveleigh is a delicious retreat near L.A.’s iconic tourist destinations. The restaurant is “easy [to] find off Sunset and the setting feels far away from the hustle just outside,” says one TripAdvisor reviewer. Housed in an orchard building since 1923, the restaurant has maintained a rustic feel. There’s a pair of lush, tree-flanked patios in front and back. Eveleigh offers farm-to-table cuisine with inventive vegetable dishes like heirloom honey nut squash with fresh seafood, poultry dishes and steaks. TripAdvisor users also rave that the Eveleigh pairs “great” and “exceptional” service with its top-notch cuisine.
