Sand dunes, charming towns, and seafood shacks. You’ll find timeless appeal on Cape Cod, the hook-shaped peninsula of Massachusetts, home to towns such as Provincetown, Chatham and Truro. It’s an iconic summer getaway—thanks in part to famous denizens ranging the Kennedy family to Taylor Swift—and it’s extra-romantic during the off-season, too. That classic ambience includes plenty of elegant (and perhaps pricey) lodgings, from inns and B&Bs to full-service resorts. Here are the best luxury hotels on Cape Cod.

Chatham Bars Inn (297 Shore Rd.; 508-945-0096) Chatham

This 217-room, 1914 hotel “dazzles,” writes Travel+Leisure, by balancing “historic details with more modern comforts like a renovated spa, and four restaurants that source their fruits and veggies from the hotel’s own eight-acre farm.” One Google user agrees, saying, “The rooms are decorated well and the whole experience feels very luxurious.”  >> Book this hotel for less

Sea Street Inn (328 Sea St.; 508-360-6389) Hyannis

Yankee magazine writes that “bed-and-breakfast doesn’t seem to do justice to the guest experience at this grown-up Cape Cod boutique inn,” thanks in part to its all-adults policy and amenities such as the gourmet breakfasts and fresh flowers. One Tripadvisor user calls the inn “beautiful and quintessentially Cape Cod. Our suite was spacious and very comfortable, with great design touches. Beginning your day watching a classically trained chef prepare your breakfast is a one-of-a-kind experience.”

The Mansion at Ocean Edge (2907 Main St.; 508-896-9000) Brewster

You’ll be “perfectly positioned to enjoy it all” in Cape Cod at this 90-room resort with villas, spa and golf, according to Forbes Travel Guide, since it also has easy access to beaches, fishing and bike paths. One Google user likes the “nice location, close to the beach” and that, despite “the big sprawl, there’s shuttle bus on hand to get you around. Solid golf course and great pickle ball courts. Reception very friendly.”  >> Book this hotel for less

Chatham Inn (359 Main St.; 508-945-9232) Chatham

Forbes Travel Guide says that this 18-room Relais & Châteaux property is “ideally located near Chatham’s quintessential Main Street, so you can leave your car parked and roam around the charming shops on foot.” The décor is sleek but comfortable, says a Tripadvisor user: “a powerful shower, plenty of towels and lovely Bulgari toiletries. The atmosphere feels intimate and the staff could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was absolutely delicious.”

Wequassett Resort and Golf Club (2173 MA-28; 508-784-7961) Harwich

Travel+Leisure calls this 120-room, five-star resort on 27 acres “an ultra-luxe destination along the waters of Pleasant Bay.” You’ll have plenty to do thanks to the two pools, five restaurants, two beaches, tennis, golf, and and a kid-magnet splash park. “We loved all the great activities they plan,” says a Google user, “especially the children’s programs, movie nights, and bonfires. Visiting during the off-season was fantastic; it was peaceful and there was plenty to do even when it’s cold and windy!”  >> Book this hotel for less
