Hike trails, explore marble caves, and see the largest living thing on the planet—the massive General Sherman sequoia tree. Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks are a duo of jointly-run national parks in central California. This wonderland of High Sierra scenery has limited hotel-style lodgings inside the parks. Your best bet is to stay in the town of Three Rivers or, a little farther out, Visalia. Here are the best hotels near Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks.
Wuksachi Lodge (64740 Wuksachi Way; 866-807-3598) Sequoia National Park
This 102-room lodge inside the park “is the most luxurious” of the onsite options, writes Condé Nast Traveler, “with its cobblestone lobby fireplace and well-appointed rooms—just don’t expect a spa or five-star restaurant.” The hotel does have its own restaurant and the three-mile Wuksachi Trail sits right behind the hotel. “One of the better national park hotels I’ve experienced,” writes a Tripadvisor user. “Overall, it had the feel of a better-quality Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inn. It had phone, large screen TV and Wi-Fi—which is often not the case in national parks. The ice machines also have a water-bottle filler, very handy!” >> Book this hotel for less
AutoCamp Sequoia (40457 Sierra Dr.; 559-465-0779) Three Rivers
Enjoy glamping at this branch of the AutoCamp chain located just outside the park: Choose from Airstreams, small modern cabins, and some bunk rooms. Condé Nast Traveler likes that “you’ll find many of AutoCamp’s signature amenities at this location, from complimentary granola and rental bikes to spa-inspired bathrooms and weekend live music.” The resort has a pool and a Clubhouse, and the non-bunk-room lodgings have kitchenettes. “Very nice Airstreams, great A/C and the showers are lovely,” writes a Google reviewer. “I liked that you can walk to a sandy area that opens up to the river, and you can see stars late at night; it’s about a 15-minute drive to Sequoia National Park. The front desk staff is kind and knowledgeable and they are open 24 hours a day.” >> Book this hotel for less
Comfort Inn & Suites Sequoia Kings Canyon (40820 Sierra Dr.; 559-566-0232) Three Rivers
For a brand-name budget stay, it’s hard to argue with this Comfort Inn in Three Rivers. “Room was spacious and clean and only 10 minutes from the national park entrance,” writes a Google reviewer. “Plus, it had a free continental breakfast. The waffles were delicious!” The hotel has a pool and free parking. “The location was great for the national park,” writes a Tripadvisor user. “There’s not much around the hotel, so be prepared to drive if you want food or shops.” >> Book this hotel for less
The Darling Hotel (210 N Court St.; 559-713-2113) Visalia
Staying in Visalia, about an hour from the park, lets you experience a charming downtown, including this boutique hotel built out of an old courthouse. Condé Nast Traveler describes it as a “sleek, 1930s-inspired hotel complete with high ceilings, velvet couches, plush bedding, and marbled walk-in showers. Grab a Oaxacan Old Fashioned at the rooftop bar, Elderwood.” The hotel also has an outdoor pool and rooms have views of the city or mountains. One Google reviewer likes that there are “great restaurants within walking distance” and another calls it a “beautiful Art Deco Hotel—the building has real character and location is perfect for visiting Sequoia National Park.” >> Book this hotel for less
Hampton Inn Visalia (4747 W Noble Ave.; 559-732-3900) Visalia
Just under 40 miles from the parks, this Hampton Inn has an outdoor pool, free parking and an easy location off Highway 198. “Despite the 50- to 60-minute drive to the national park, it is well worth it,” writes a Google reviewer. “There are plenty of shops and restaurants near the hotel in downtown Visalia. Bonus: The breakfast was great! Crispiest waffles I’ve had at a Hampton Inn.” A Tripadvisor user writes that the “room is spacious and parking is available directly around the hotel. Supermarket nearby.” >> Book this hotel for less
