Through fossils and a colorful landscape known as the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest National Park offers a glimpse of ancient geological history in Eastern Arizona. Located along I-40 and the path of the former Route 66, the park has plenty of places to stop to see petrified wood, quartz, and Triassic fossils, as well as the Painted Desert Visitor Center and the Rainbow Forest Museum. To stay nearby, your best bets are in Holbrook or, farther out, Winslow. Here are the best hotels near Petrified Forest National Park.
