The eastern Caribbean island of St. Lucia offers rainforests, coral reefs, and the majestic twin volcanoes knowns as The Pitons. So it’s no surprise that it’s popular with honeymooners and other travelers looking for romance. Most of the hotels are on the southwestern side of the island, along the Caribbean waters. Many have a serious flair for luxury. Here are five great places to stay on St. Lucia.
Jade Mountain Resort (VW7F+GG3, Mamin; 800-223-1108) Soufriere
“Jade Mountain Resort boasts one of the most spectacular views on earth,” writes Travel+Leisure. This small luxe resort looks out over the Caribbean as well as St. Lucia’s iconic twin volcanoes, the Pitons. The magazine likes that it’s “a five-minute walk to two pristine soft sand beaches” and that “guests can access the restaurants, bars, and other amenities at the adjoining sister resort, Anse Chastanet, a short stroll or shuttle ride down the mountain.” One Google reviewer writes “the resort amenities are limited, with a small beach. The focus would be on enjoying the peace and serenity.” >> Book this hotel for less
Cap Maison Resort & Spa (Building 1, Smuggler’s Cove; 800-331-2713) Gros Islet
Condé Nast Traveler says this 50-room “hacienda-style” resort near Rodney Bay offers “one of the most sophisticated stays on the island. Cap Maison’s cliff-top location boasts unobstructed views across Pigeon Island National Park and offers access to a private beach for lounging, swimming and water sports.” A Google reviewer writes that “the food is amazing—be sure to do the half-board or all-inclusive or you will be spending an arm and leg on food if you plan to eat at the resort. Be aware that the resort is on the north end of the island and the airport is on the south side, so it took us almost two hours to get to the resort.” >> Book this hotel for less
Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort (Val Des Pitons Forbidden Beach La Baie de Silence; 758-456-8000) Soufriere
“While St. Lucia is best known for its romantic and adventure travel,” writes Condé Nast Traveler, this 76-room resort—set on 100 acres of a UNESCO World Heritage site—is “perfect for the whole family.” Its kids club has “locally-rooted, experience-based activities like guided nature walks and the planting of coral reefs,” and “adults can take advantage of sailing, rum tasting, and waterfall chasing.” Online reviewers also rave about the non-traditional spa. “The tropical treehouse setting is so unique!” writes a Google reviewer. “We started our first day there after breakfast with a couples massage and you could see and hear a little waterfall outside the room.” >> Book this hotel for less
Sandals Grande St. Lucian (Pigeon Island Gros Islet; 888-726-3257) Gros Islet
This branch of the adults-only, all-inclusive Sandals is walking distance from the island’s Pigeon Island National Landmark and offers a wealth of amenities, since you can also take the inter-Sandals shuttle to the island’s other two Sandals resorts. It has “more of a theme park village atmosphere than a secluded island setting,” writes US News & World Report, “and with the free shuttle service, there are an additional 15 restaurants and numerous beach activities available if you tire of the property’s five pools, scuba diving lessons and tennis facilities.” A Google reviewer adds that “the food was great! Nothing is more than two- to five-minute walk away. The beach is a one-minute walk out the door with so many chairs set up.” >> Book this hotel for less
Royalton Saint Lucia, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort (Smugglers Cove Drive Cap Estate; 758-731-1000) St. Lucia
Forbes likes the amenities—including four pools and nine restaurants—at this 290-room all-inclusive resort that’s part of the Marriott brand. “Guests can take part in weight training, water sports, beach boot camps, dance classes, kids and teen clubs, none of which will cost a penny more,” writes the magazine. A Tripadvisor user calls it a “beautiful hotel” with “good entertainment and plenty of food to choose from.” Another points out that “if you are a standard guest on all-inclusive there are places you can’t go! Was unable to book into restaurants as fully booked for my duration—so buffet every day.” >> Book this hotel for less
