Washington Irving’s 1820 story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” tells of a small town in upstate New York plagued by a Headless Horseman. Today, the actual town of Sleepy Hollow—tucked along the Hudson River Valley in Westchester County, about 27 miles north of New York City—is still home to real-life creepy sights. There’s the cemetery, the bridge, and the Old Dutch Church that reportedly inspired Irving. The author lived in neighboring Tarrytown, one of the prime areas to stay if you want to explore Sleepy Hollow. Here are the best hotels in Sleepy Hollow and the vicinity.
