Tucked between Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, the northwest Florida town of Santa Rosa Beach offers beachy fun as well as access to three state parks and a state forest. This mellow area near Destin offers a good selection of hotels, too, including both boutique hotels and budget stays. Here are the best hotels in Santa Rosa Beach and its environs.

WaterColor Inn (34 Goldenrod Cir.; 850-534-5000) Santa Rosa Beach

Afar calls this boutique beachfront hotel with 60 rooms and seven family suites the “grand-dame property in these powdery-sand parts.” The hotel has a zero-entry family swimming pool, a kids club area and an indoor/outdoor bar. A Google reviewer writes that “the room was dreamy as well as the view! We loved going to the pool and the food and drinks poolside were amazing. We really didn’t feel like leaving the hotel much because they have about everything you could want or need there.” >> Book this hotel for less

Home2 Suites by Hilton Santa Rosa Beach (100 West Hewett Rd.; 855-705-1152) Santa Rosa Beach

Choose from studio-style and separate-bedroom suites at this branch of the Home2 Suites brand, which a Tripadvisor user calls “a pleasant surprise. Spacious rooms, great layout, excellent mini kitchen with a large fridge, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee maker.” A Google reviewer calls it “very comfy for a family of four and a midsized pet. The boys loved the heated pool and my hubby liked the lounge areas and free breakfast. Location was pretty close to shopping, dining, nightlife and beaches. Some spots are walkable or you can rent a bike, but otherwise just a quick drive.” >> Book this hotel for less

The Lodge 30A (4721 E County Highway 30A; 844-739-1105) Santa Rosa Beach

This boutique hotel, located between the Gulf and Point Washington State Forest, offers an add-in package that includes access to the nearby beach club and two golf courses. The hotel is “definitely the most cost-effective in the Santa Rosa Beach area,” writes a Tripadvisor user who got the package. “The beach was amazing, and chairs and umbrellas were included. The food at the Beach Club restaurants was good, and the pools were nice. It was about two miles away from the lodge, and parking was easy.” One Google reviewer who didn’t get the add-on writes that “the hotel’s rooms were clean and the bathroom was large. It isn’t on the beach but if you don’t mind walking a half mile or driving to a beach this is your place to go.” >> Book this hotel for less

The Pearl Hotel (63 Main St.; 850-588-2881) Rosemary Beach

Enjoy perks such as a poolside spa, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant, and private beach access at this 55-room boutique hotel in neighboring Rosemary Beach, facing the Gulf. “Pour a glass of bubbly on your balcony at sunset or grab a mojito on the breezy rooftop,” writes Afar, and “the hotel’s adult-only pool has a sophisticated vibe.” The area around Rosemary Beach “seems straight out of a postcard,” writes a Google reviewer. “The surroundings boast meticulously kept buildings and cobblestone streets. The hotel itself is a testament to pristine elegance.” >> Book this hotel for less

For a big-resort stay, check in at this 600-room Hilton in neighboring Miramar Beach, which has a private beach, a spa, and three pools. US News & World Report praises its “monumental size— the property also comprises four golf courses and 15 tennis courts … and provides everything guests need for a fun day, from beach chairs and sunscreen to volleyball and paddleboards.” A Google reviewer calls it a “nice resort in a beautiful location.
