In the early 20th century, Miami’s South Beach neighborhood was built around the gorgeous Art Deco architecture. A century later, those Art Deco palaces found new use. And South Beach found new status, for its chic mix of a beach scene, shopping, restaurants, and bars. Not every property embraces that party ambience. But these five hotels im Miami’s South Beach will make you feel like be on the A list for any party in town.
The Betsy (1440 Ocean Dr.; 305-531-6100) South Beach
This 130-room hotel feels like a plush beach house. And sitting at the northern end of Ocean Drive, it seems to exist in its own bubble. “This hotel’s Florida-Georgia style of architecture is a colonial masterpiece in a sea of pastel-colored Art Deco gems,” says Condé Nast Traveler, which gives it raves for its spacious rooms with “mini libraries.” Travel+Leisure, likewise, has declared it one of the World’s Best. It says that “the L Murray Dixon-designed landmark continues to distinguish itself with top-notch services and amenities,” including chef Laurent Tourondel’s BLT Steak and its rooftop deck with ocean views. >> Book this hotel for less
Delano South Beach (1685 Collins Ave.; 305-674-649) South Beach
This 245-room hotel is set in a revamped, 1940s Art Deco palace. Once the center of South Beach’s comeback in the 1990s, today Travel+Leisure says “it’s a throwback to a time when a vacation didn’t involve self-improvement or saving the planet.” The place dazzles with furniture and objects by Gaudí, Dalí, and Charles and Ray Eames. Still, some travelers are underwhelmed by the smallish rooms. According to one TripAdvisor user, “What made up for it was the partial beach view, direct access to boardwalk and beach, as well as the pool, which is still pretty dramatic.” >> Book this hotel for less
1 Hotel South Beach (2341 Collins Ave.; 833-625-3111) South Beach
South Beach may be known for its decadent streak, but this 426-room hotel has a seriously earnest side. Green amenities include cardboard hangers, a triple water filtration system, and reclaimed-wood furnishings. The hotel “mixes eco-friendly intentions with high design to create an oceanfront space that feels both chic and homey,” says Travel+Leisure. One TripAdvisor user notes that there’s a party here if you want it. “I greatly appreciate the commitment to sustainability (no plastic water bottles, for instance). Loews Miami Beach (1601 Collins Ave.; 305-604-1601) South Beach
Want a classic, roomy resort? This 790-room hotel has easy beach access, a big pool complex with cabanas, and a spa. “Families with kids, couples with dogs, business travelers with laptops—everyone happily coexists and gets what they need from the hotel,” says Condé Nast Traveler. The Setai (2001 Collins Ave.; 305-520-6000) South Beach
Far East aesthetics blend with Art Deco authenticity at this all-suites hotel in a 1936 landmark. “It’s hard not to feel a wave of relaxation wash over you as you walk through the two-story, Zen-inspired lobby,” says Condé Nast Traveler. That vibe seems to extend to the outdoor spaces, staff, and the Asian-influenced restaurant Jaya. “The inner yard is just wonderful to have a drink in the evening or to eat breakfast in the morning,” says one Google reviewer. >> Book this hotel for less
