To experience the heart of Melbourne, stay in its Southbank neighborhood. Located along the Yarra River, this is the arts-and-entertainment hub of the Australian city, home to the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall, and the National Gallery of Victoria. You’ll also find plenty of restaurants, bars, and the Crown Casino, which has some of its own hotels. Here are the best hotels in Melbourne’s Southbank neighborhood.

“For a big-hotel experience with plenty of old-fashioned bells and whistles, the ever-popular Langham delivers,” writes Condé Nast Traveler about this 388-room grande dame. “This is a fairly traditional five-star, kitted out with floral carpets and plenty of cream tones—although the Langham brand’s signature pink does enliven things somewhat.” Onsite perks include a spa, restaurant, and an afternoon tea option. “Walkable to many sightseeing places and eateries,” writes a Google reviewer. “I really appreciated the gym with the cold scented towels and herbal teas. The highlight is the steam room, sauna and hydro showers, plus the indoor pool and Jacuzzi with an amazing view over the city.” >> Book this hotel for less
