The casinos, the big shows and even the celebrity chefs all live indoors in Las Vegas. But one huge draw of the Nevada hub is unabashedly outdoors: the spectacular hotel pools. Beyond being literal oases in the seasonal desert heat, Las Vegas hotel pools are scenes unto themselves. There is always the potential for bars, reserved cabanas, and even swim-up blackjack. At some hotels, you don’t even need to be staying overnight, as long as you book a cabana or daybed. And some Vegas hotel pool complexes are sprawling enough to accommodate families, or anyone who just wants to relax. Here are five hotel pools in Las Vegas that go above and beyond:
Mandalay Bay Resort (3950 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; 877-305-3136) The Strip
This 3,200-room resort is known for its pool area—Mandalay Bay Beach—the way other Vegas hotels are known for their bars or shows. The 11-acre complex “is like a mini-water city with every pool scene imaginable,” says Condé Nast Traveler, “so whether you’re looking for chill vibes, party pads, an exclusive hideout, or family-friendly fun, you’ll find it among the eight pools, three-story casino, lazy river, and white-sand beach.” One Yelp reviewer called the Mandalay Bay Beach “just massive, really closer to a water park. There’s a picture perfect view of the Luxor Pyramid through palm trees. The Garden of the Gods complex at this 4,000-room, centrally located resort stays “true to its oversized Roman theme,” says Travel+Leisure. Among the seven pools, you’ll find “classical landscaping, Roman statues, an 18-foot waterfall and, of course, go-go dancers,” but the magazine also gives it props for having mostly family-friendly pools. The pools have different themes and amenities (Fortuna has swim-up gaming, Jupiter is more mellow), and one Tripadvisor reviewer liked playing Goldilocks among the different options: “Pools were amazing and climate controlled. The Cosmopolitan (3708 Las Vegas Blvd S.; 702-698-7000) The Strip
This Strip hotel embodies Las Vegas chic with its buzzing dining and bar scene, and its three-pool Pool District has lots of stylish ambience. Condé Nast Traveler likes the multi-level Boulevard pool (only for hotel guests) for its “unobstructed fourth-story views of The Strip… and for offering fun brunches, evening film screenings, and even concerts that transform the pool deck into a sweaty, 3,000-person venue.” Despite the party scene, the pool gets raves for its friendly service. MGM Grand (3799 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; 877-880-0880) The Strip
The resort fronted by a 45-foot bronze lion has an appropriately named pool area: The Grand Pool Complex sits on 6.5 acres and includes four pools, three hot tubs, waterfalls, lawn games, pool bars, and a lazy river. One Trip Advisor user calls it the “best pool in Vegas, and I recommend reserving a cabana or daybed.” Condé Nast Traveler says it’s a “place where adults can be kids and kids well, they can be kids too. Golden Nugget (129 E. Fremont St.; 702-385-7111) Downtown
Located next to the Fremont Street Experience, this resort with gaming, entertainment and a steakhouse has a showstopper pool in The Tank, with its water slide that shoots you safely through a giant shark tank. “The attraction isn’t just for kids—adults can blissfully swim beneath faux waterfalls and peek into the aquarium on their way to the blackjack table,” says Condé Nast Traveler, “or they can make their way to the Hideout, a 21-and-older rooftop infinity pool with cabana bottle service.” One Tripadvisor reviewer likes the hotel’s unfussy personality. “We prefer to stay downtown for the old Vegas feel and Golden Nugget is our go-to,” she says. “I am an old lady in my 50s, but had a blast going down the waterslide.” >> Book this hotel for less
