With its great hiking trails, laidback culture and mild weather, North Carolina’s Asheville makes a great place for a getaway with your four-legged BFF. Hike a stretch of the Appalachian Trail, sample local craft beers, then explore the dog-welcoming Biltmore Estates. While there are plenty of pet-friendly spots in town, here are five dog-friendly hotels in Asheville that go above and beyond.
Aloft Asheville (51 Biltmore Ave.; 828-232-2838) Downtown
There’s no pet fee at all at this sleek, downtown boutique hotel that pops with color in the lobby and rooms. Also, the Aloft offers both an outdoor pool and a 24-hour gym. Then there’s the location, just two miles from Biltmore Estates and six miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center. “Our room came ready with a dog bed, food/water dishes, dog treats and tennis ball!” says one Google reviewer. “Such a wonderful experience for parents of fur babies! And the human amenities such as the coffee shop and bar are phenomenal!” One TripAdvisor user noted “They even have a dog walk with fake grass and a hose for easy clean up on the rooftop near the pool! Asheville Swiss Chalets (7 N. Delano Rd.; 828-776-0509) Beaucatcher Mountain
You can’t discuss dog-friendly hotels in Asheville without considering these chalet- and cabin-style lodgings. Many offer fully equipped kitchens, linens, cable and wifi, in addition to fireplaces in some units. Of course, pets love the fenced-in pens and gated porches that come with six of the chalets. Best of all, every pet gets special bowls, treats, and towels. “The location was wooded and felt secluded but still an easy Uber ride to downtown,” says one TripAdvisor user. “The house was immaculate and stocked with anything and everything we needed for three mini poodles and four humans.” The yards are also great, says a Yelp user, and “the owners are most thoughtful with free cookies, cold water bottles and even dog treats. Clean, comfortable, dog-friendly. We will love to call Swiss Chalet our home away from home.” There are some dog breed restrictions, and a daily pet fee of $30 per dog.
Hotel Indigo (151 Haywood St.; 828-239-0239) Downtown
Humans love this Holiday-Inn-affiliated boutique chain for its mix of crisp aesthetics and reliability. Located just northwest of downtown, this hotel has a fitness center, free wifi and a cocktail lounge. However, some TripAdvisor users complain about the $75 pet fee. “This is a great location, and the hotel was very clean and service was great,” says one reviewer with two dogs. There wasn’t enough walking space for her “Yorkie-Bichon mix who is a little hyper, but for my little Chi, it was perfect.” Another Yelp user liked how staff offered a list of nearby dog-friendly restaurants, “This isn’t a place to leave a dog all day while you enjoy the city, rather a great spot for you and your dog to unwind before venturing out to downtown Asheville.” >> Book this hotel for less
Holiday Inn Asheville-Biltmore East (1450 Tunnel Rd.; 828-298-5611) Azalea
The Holiday Inn chain is always well-known for being pet-friendly, but this location east of the city goes a step beyond. It exudes an aesthetic blend of boutique hotel and woodsy mountain lodge. Pet rooms are all on the first floor, but you can ask for a view of the pool and mountains, rather than the parking lot. “Our room was average—small but very clean,” says one TripAdvisor reviewer. “In the morning we discovered a dog walking trail in the back of the property that was so sweet with little log benches, birdhouses and poop bags.” The dog trail was a big hit with Yelp users too. One called the hotel a “great value … The pet nature trail was a big win for my dog and a lovely walk for me. ” The pet fee is $45 per night. >> Book this hotel for less
Cedar Crest Inn (674 Biltmore Ave.; 828-252-1389) Biltmore Village
Along with the dog-friendly hotels in Asheville, there is this also this nice B&B. This pup-friendly inn near the River Arts District has Victorian décor, a lavish breakfast and an evening wine reception. The main building has classic B&B-style rooms, while pet owners can choose from two cottages, with one or two bedrooms. “The food is great and it’s close to the Biltmore, downtown and Biltmore Village,” says one TripAdvisor user. “And my two large dogs felt right at home in the guest cottage.” While plenty of pet owners feel like hotel pet accommodations tend to get dingy or smelly, a Yelp user raved about Cedar Crest because “the cabin I stayed it was immaculate and cozy.
