Love saving money on hotels but hate paying up front for a prepaid booking? HotelSlash offers a smart solution. You can now snag low prepaid hotel rates without paying up front.
When you book any prepaid rate on other booking sites, they will charge the full amount now and then refund you if you cancel before the cancellation deadline. HotelSlash is different. We offer the low prepaid-but-cancellable rate and let you hold on to your money until closer to your trip. Here’s how it works:
How to Snag Low Prepaid Rates Without Paying Up Front
Choose the prepaid, refundable rate.
This is the sweet spot. The prepaid refundable rate combines the lower price of prepaid bookings and the flexibility of being able to cancel before arrival without a penalty.
Don’t assume a non-refundable rate is always the best option; in many cases, a prepaid refundable rate can be lower than a non-refundable rate.
Pay $25 up front to lock in the rate.
Here’s what makes us unique. When you book the prepaid refundable rate through HotelSlash, you’ll pay $25 up front as a deposit to lock in your rate and we will front the rest of your prepaid cost. That’s right. You get the prepaid refundable rate without actually having to prepay except for a small deposit. You’ll get the same confirmation, the same guaranteed rate, the same everything. Your room is secured at the lower price, but instead of paying hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars now, you only pay $25.
You won’t be charged the remaining balance until a few days before your cancellation deadline. We’ll email you first with a link to use if you’d prefer to pay with a different credit card than the one on file.
That’s it. No gimmicks, no gotchas.
The process is simple. The only difference is that your money stays in your pocket until closer to your trip.
And here’s the best part: Should your plans change and you need to cancel before the deadline, you get a full refund—including the $25 deposit. No penalties, no hassles.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far ahead should I book to take full advantage of this service?
One big difference between HotelSlash and the other guys is that we don’t just confirm your reservation and disappear. We actively track your booking for price drops. If we find a better deal before your arrival date, we’ll shoot you an email to let you know so you can re-book and save even more. It’s like price protection for your hotel booking.
Reservations booked at least 14 days prior to the cancellation deadline are eligible for the $25 deposit. But booking at least a month ahead is ideal, as it gives us time to work our magic. The earlier you book, the more likely you are to see a price drop. Now that you don’t have to pay for your entire reservation up front, there’s even more reason to book as early as possible.
If I pay only a $25 deposit, is my reservation fully confirmed?
Yes—your reservation is fully confirmed as soon as your $25 deposit is paid. You’ll still have a balance due later, but you can hold on to your money until much closer to your travel date. Your quoted price is guaranteed to be the highest price you’ll pay—and it may well drop after you book.
What happens if I cancel my reservation before the cancellation deadline?
If you cancel before the deadline, your $25 deposit will be refunded automatically to your original payment method. If you’ve already paid the balance, then we’ll refund your deposit plus the balance payment, as long as you cancel before the deadline.
Can I still apply coupons and/or SlashCash to my booking to lower the rate?
Yes, absolutely. Any SlashCash and/or coupons you apply at booking will be reflected in the remaining balance due later. (Discounts never affect the $25 deposit.)
Do I have to do anything to confirm my reservation after paying the deposit?
No—nothing else is required. The remaining balance will be charged to the card on file a few days before the cancellation deadline as per your confirmation email. We’ll email you before we charge it, and you can choose to pay with a different card at that time if you wish. If you do nothing, the balance will be charged automatically. Once paid, we’ll email you a confirmation and your check-in voucher.
What happens if my card is declined or cannot be charged for some reason?
We’ll attempt to charge your card over three days. If a charge attempt fails, we’ll email you with a link to pay manually (including with a different card). If we can’t successfully charge the card on the third attempt and payment isn’t made manually, your reservation will be cancelled. Cancelled reservations can’t be reinstated, so please use the email link promptly if you’re notified of a failed payment attempt.
