Most famous as the home of golf’s Masters Tournament, the town of Augusta has plenty of year-round appeal. That’s thanks to its charming downtown, canals, and a riverwalk that lies along the low-key Savannah River (so low-key that another annual event here is the Rubber Duck Derby). Whether you’re in the northeast Georgia town for golf, business, or just a weekend getaway, you’ll find a good selection of hotels, too, including plenty of brand names and some excellent independent options. Here are the best hotels in Augusta.
Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center (2 10th St.; 706-722-8900) Downtown
USA Today calls this riverside Marriott, attached to the Convention Center, “elegantly decorated… it caters to luxury travelers” with perks such as indoor and outdoor pools, free shuttle to the airport, and Marriott Revive luxury bedding. Fodor’s recommends booking a corner suite, which offers “magnificent river views.” A Google reviewer likes that “the food from the restaurant was delicious and the craft cocktails at the bar were generous. The Riverwalk is right outside of the front door.” >> Book this hotel for less
Olde Town Inn (410 4th St.; 706-828-5600) Downtown
Housed in an 1896 home, this small inn is “a gem,” according to one Google reviewer, and “the bar downstairs was a plus.” Indeed, the inn’s Fox’s Lair Tavern is known locally for its Tuesday night Irish music, while rooms upstairs offer four-poster beds and fireplaces. “Our room had a living area as well as bedroom,” says a Tripadvisor user. “Very charming and clean. Walking distance to venues and restaurants—saw Augusta in an entirely new way!”
The Partridge Inn Augusta, Curio Collection by Hilton (2110 Walton Way; 706- 737-8888) Harrisburg
This 143-room boutique hotel was built in 1836 as a palatial two-story home, but the historic property is now part of Hilton’s Curio Collection. Southern Living describes it as “perched on top of a hill in a peaceful neighborhood,” with “scenic views from the quarter mile of verandas and balconies.” A Tripadvisor user notes that “most rooms are likely smaller than a newer hotel, but very comfortable. Love the two choices of dining—an upscale restaurant, and a more casual seafood restaurant on the top floor which has an awesome view of the city.” >> Book this hotel for less
