Located on the southern tip of the Jersey Shore, Cape May is a jewel of a beach town. Along with its white-sand beaches, the walkable village is a charmer with hundreds of preserved Victorian buildings as well as cute boutiques and fudge shops. While Cape May boasts a lot of bed and breakfasts, you’ll also find a good number of hotels that offer resort amenities and access to the local color. Here are the best hotels in Cape May.
Congress Hall (200 Congress Pl.; 609-884-8421) Cape May
Immerse yourself in Cape May’s history at this landmark hotel that started out in 1816 as a boarding house. U.S. News & World Report writes that the 108-room hotel “pays tribute to its past by maintaining much of its Victorian charm” but also wins over guests with “locally sourced bath products, a spa, free parking, a large outdoor pool, and near-immediate beach access.” One Google reviewer calls it “the ideal place to stay in Cape May—everything is within walking distance,” while another says that “the food at The Blue Pig Tavern is solid, and the bar is a nice place to unwind.” >> Book this hotel for less
Grand Hotel of Cape May (1045 Beach Ave.; 609-884-5611) Cape May
“Close enough to town to walk or use a free bicycle from the hotel,” writes a Tripadvisor user of this 165-room hotel across from the beach, but “far enough away that peace and quiet abound. Most rooms have a very good view of the ocean and they have a cordoned-off area of the beach with umbrellas and chairs for the hotel guests.” Rooms have an elegantly contemporary aesthetic and the hotel has two pools. “Good stay at an affordable rate,” writes a Google reviewer. “Beach food service was reasonably priced. Can’t beat the convenience of food delivered right to your chair! Complimentary chair rentals were also a great touch.” >> Book this hotel for less
Montreal Beach Resort (1025 Beach Ave.; 609-884-7011) Cape May
“A terrific hotel,” writes a Google reviewer of this 70-room resort on the beach, and “a 10-minute walk from downtown. Rooms are spacious, the pool is heated, and it’s right across from the ocean. Guests receive beach guest passes and complimentary beach chairs, umbrella and towels.” A Tripadvisor user echoes one common complaint: “the walls are a bit thin, and I would avoid rooms on the first floor—less privacy from people walking by. But still a great location near the central beachfront and the Washington Street Mall, and a comfortable room with a balcony view of the ocean.” >> Book this hotel for less
Sandpiper Beach Club (11 Beach Ave.; 800- 732-7816) Cape May
“Top notch,” writes a Tripadvisor user about this condo-style hotel. “Everything is walkable. The balcony was great for sitting and enjoying the ocean views—we could see dolphins. The beach service was fantastic.” Units come equipped with full kitchens and living rooms with sleeper sofas. “Rooms are beautifully decorated and appointed,” writes a Google reviewer. “We appreciated the kitchen for breakfast and lunch and moved from the beach and pool, to the balcony in time for happy hour and people-watching. We loved the low-key quiet vibe of the property.” >> Book this hotel for less
Mahalo Cape May (1033 Beach Ave.; 609-884-4727) Cape May
A Tripadvisor user likes the “stress-free” ambience of this 47-room hotel with a pool. “Mahalo made our stay a breeze by setting up beach chairs and umbrellas and also calling a shuttle to get to shops and restaurants. And the décor—a coastal theme but done so elegantly.” Along with beach chairs and umbrellas, the hotel also offers loaner bikes and board games. A Google reviewer likes that “The Mahalo is right across the street from the beach! The hotel room was so roomy, with a full kitchenette. There is an awesome deck on the roof, which was so nice to sit and look out at the beach and watch the sunset! Everything is within walking distance.” >> Book this hotel for less
