They are the highest mountain range in the northeastern United States, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire exude plenty of low-key charm. The focal point is the 6,288-foot peak Mt. Washington, but the rest of the Presidential Range—each peak named after a POTUS—and the White Mountain National Forest offer a seemingly endless supply of pretty trails for hikes, birding, and more. Explore by driving the 35-mile Kancamagus Scenic Byway and by staying at one of these great hotels in the White Mountains, most near the hub of North Conway.
