Blessed with sugar-sand beaches and plenty of water sports, Fort Myers Beach offers a crowd-pleasing playground on Florida’s Gulf Coast. While this stretch of the seven-mile-long Estero Island doesn’t boast an enormous number of hotels, you’ll still find excellent boutique and brand-name options, as well as plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. (Take note that it is about 15 miles south of the larger city of Fort Myers, which can confuse some folks.) Here are the best hotels in Fort Myers Beach.

Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina (275 Estero Blvd.; 888-222-7465) Fort Myers Beach

This 1950 resort is a Fort Myers Beach classic, offering three pools and a marina along 12 acres of coastline, set between the Gulf of Mexico and Matanzas Pass waterway. US News & World Report likes that “the resort sits less than a mile from Fort Myers Beach’s Times Square shopping hub, and all accommodations have kitchenettes and screened-in lanais.” A Google reviewer writes that “the service is excellent, the hotel is immaculately clean, and the food is great. I appreciated the adults-only pool and hot tub, as well as the poolside delivery of food and drinks. We loved the view of the ocean from our room.” >> Book this hotel for less

Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers Beach (251 Crescent St.; 239-899-4001) Fort Myers Beach

Enjoy private beach access, a pool and five dining options at this 254-room branch of the Margaritaville brand. “A perfect beach getaway,” writes a Tripadvisor user. “The property was fun, clean, and had everything we wanted or needed in a three-night stay. At the pool, it was easy to get a lounge chair daily.” A Google reviewer points out that, for better or worse, there is a party atmosphere. “They have good food and drinks are heavy on the liquor—which was good, because they are pricey. My only gripe is you won’t get much sleep. Loud music goes on until at least 1 a.m.” >> Book this hotel for less

DiamondHead Beach Resort (2000 Estero Blvd.; 855-518-6650) Fort Myers Beach

USA Today praises this 124-room high-rise resort for its “fantastic location on Fort Myers Beach with lots of family activities, water sports, spa services and delicious dining.” A Tripadvisor user who came for a family reunion writes that “our group, from 3 years old to their 80s, had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent. The beach and pool were well maintained and welcoming. Loved the view from the balcony.” >> Book this hotel for less

Lighthouse Resort Inn & Suites (1051 Fifth St.; 239-356-7829) Fort Myers Beach

While you’re not on the beach, this pastel-rainbow-colored hotel puts you in the center of activity in Fort Myers Beach, thanks to its tiki bar that’s popular with locals and tourists alike. The hotel is also “just 200 feet from the ocean,” writes US News & World Report, and has “two pools (one with a waterfall) and picnic areas with charcoal grills.” While some online reviewers say the hotel could use updating, one Google reviewer writes that “our room was very clean and welcoming. We enjoyed the tiki bar downstairs and got a good night’s sleep. We didn’t hear anything from the tiki bar even though our room was extremely close. It’s close to the beach, shopping and restaurants—no need to drive.” >> Book this hotel for less

Gullwing Beach Resort (6620 Estero Blvd.; 866-873-5527) Fort Myers Beach

Enjoy condo-style lodgings at this beachfront resort that also has a pool, tennis courts and guest bicycles. “The amenities are terrific,” says a repeat guest on Tripadvisor. “Pool, wonderful Gulf beach, many nearby restaurants, supermarket and stores.” A Google reviewer likes the updates that suites have received as a result of post-hurricane renovations. “The rooms we were in had been completely redone and were gorgeous. The kitchen was huge and had lots of pots, pans, and multiple coffee makers. The beach water is very shallow for a long way out, so it was perfect my kiddos.” >> Book this hotel for less
